Established in 1995, Laser Junction is one of South Africa’s largest laser cutting and steel fabrication companies. In January 2013 the company underwent a restructuring process and became a fully-fledged Black Empowerment Company, with a 100% BBBEE rating. As part of the restructuring process, Laser Junction sought to amalgamate its operations, as its teams were scattered across a variety of premises and facilities. With that in mind, an internal project began whereby a suitable design, development and construction process could be undertaken, enabling Laser Junction to house all its teams and operations under one roof.
Unfortunately this internal project was not successful, but the need to relocate the company to larger premises could not be ignored. Hodari Properties’ investment in land and development at Dube Tradeport would resolve this, and a suitable manufacturing facility was created, with Laser Junction signing a ten-year lease. Garry Hamilton explains:
“The new Laser Junction premises were an exercise in operational streamlining. As their operations were scattered across multiple locations, they needed to streamline their processes, put everyone and everything under one roof and create efficiencies in production and storage. This also saved the company money, in both the short and long- term.”
